I have been hosting parties at my apartment for over a year now - once every one to two months.
I have found that it is the most efficient way to stay connected with friends.
Those that attend my parties have grown, over the course of this last year, to become some of my closest friends.
It is facinating to watch this mingling of friends, creating a melting pot of people from different parts and times in my life.
However, sometimes friends of old are just not compatable with my current lifestyle.
The sad, and hard part, is letting those friends drift away.
At this point in my life, when it comes to friendships I have three objectives:
- Surround yourself with those who will make you grow and become a better person (e.g., those who are successful, intelligent, driven, etc.),
- Distance yourself from those who will drag you down, AND
- When relationships end, the other person should always have become a better person from knowing you.
Sometimes I see at my parties sides of people that are very unappealing and as a result I cannot let be a part of my life.
I have made a very hard decision, but one that had been put off for quite some time.
Those people that create negative energy (drama, issues, negative impact, untrustworthy, etc.) I'm just going to drop from my life.
I just do not feel the need to deal with behavior that is going to create negativity in my life.
On the upside, for those I don't keep in my life or invite back to my parties, I am thereby making room for those that I would like to become closer with

- Surround yourself with those who will make you grow and become a better person (e.g., those who are successful, intelligent, driven, etc.),

Having to let go of a friend for your continued well being is always a hard thing to go through. Sometimes though, as you said it is all too necessary.

Very good. I used to work at a fabric store and let me tell you, I HATED working with the manager. I got along with everyone just fine except for her. She was a dreadful manager that always found ways to depress me, like schedule things wrong, and forget to pay me, or claim I didn't do something when I actually did, or just complain about everybody does everything wrong and I had enough and I quit. Good riddance.
